What Is the Proper Shower Squeegee Etiquette?

When you have tempered glass shower doors in your bathroom, you want them to look their best all the time.

That’s why many homeowners take to keeping a squeegee in their shower so that the glass shower doors can be wiped clean after every use. This helps prevent steam from sticking to the glass, which can accelerate the buildup of soap scum and other debris.

House Rules

Getting every member of your family into the habit of using the squeegee on your glass shower doors can help keep them looking great all the time and reduce the amount of time you spend cleaning them, as well as cleaning frequency.

But what about house guests? What’s the rule about requiring house guests to squeegee your glass shower doors?

Ignorance Is Excusable

First of all, you can’t expect your guests to squeegee your glass shower doors if they don’t know that it’s something you always do. They may not have the luxury of having glass shower doors at their home, so they probably won’t instinctively know that it’s a good idea to wipe them clean after every use.

So if you want your house guests to squeegee your glass shower doors, you are going to have to ask them to do it. But is that rude?

Who Are They and How Long Are They Staying?

It depends on who they are and how long they are going to be staying in your home.

If it’s an overnight guest who is a friend of one of your children or somebody you don’t know very well, it might be awkward to ask them to clean the shower after using it.

But if it is a close adult friend or family member — or somebody who is going to be staying with you on an extended basis — they probably should be required to follow the same house rules as everybody else. In most cases, they will be happy to do it once you ask.
