Hard Water Is the Enemy of Frameless Shower Doors

down the drainIf you have invested your time and money in improving the look and style of your bathroom by installing frameless glass shower doors, the last thing you want is a buildup of the film caused by hard water.

Hard water is the enemy of frameless shower doors for two reasons:

  1. It can form lime scales to form on kettles and pipes.
  2. When water is hard, more soap is required for washing.

Lime Scales

When lime scales from hard water build up inside pipes, it can restrict the flow of water, eventually causing a blockage. This can cause your water pressure to appear low, even though the amount and flow of water you are getting from your primary water supply is unchanged.

Fortunately, removing lime scales is easy. Use a weak acid, preferably a safe, natural deliming product available at most local hardware stores.

Follow the instructions on the product labeling to remove lime deposits and clear your pipes and kettles of blockages. Typically, you will see increased flow in just a few minutes.

Too Much Soap

Soap is ideal for bathing. But using too much soap, which is often required when you have hard water, can cause an unsightly buildup on glass surfaces of your frameless shower doors.

This soap scum can ruin the sleek, refined look you wanted when you installed your frameless shower doors. It’s caused by the soap reacting with the calcium and magnesium compounds found in hard water.

Getting rid of soap scum requires a lot of cleaning and maintenance. And if you don’t keep up with it, it can make your shower look terrible.

Water Softener

The solution to hard water is to install a water softener on your water supply. Water softeners use filtering systems to remove the calcium and other compounds that cause your water to be hard.

The result is soft, harmless water that won’t harm your pipes and wont’ cause a film of soap scum to appear on your frameless shower doors.
